After a slew of recent toy recalls Wal-Mart is stepping up their independent toy safety testing. Almost 19 million Chinese made toys have been recalled in recent weeks and retail giant has initiated new policy in the wake. They will be reexamining the documentation on the toys they already have on the shelves, in addition to increasing new independent testing buy 50 percent.

This is an effort to reassure parents of Wal-Mart's commitment to safety before the upcoming holiday season. Wal-mart says they will also share the results of their testing with toy manufacturers to provide better safety standards throughout the entire industry.

The toy industry has been shaken by several high-profile recalls of Chinese-made products, from Hasbro Inc.'s faulty Easy Bake Ovens to the worldwide recall of 1.5 million preschool toys from Fisher-Price, a division of Mattel, the nation's largest toy maker.

"Wal-Mart also stands ready to help leaders in China who are implementing new testing procedures to ensure the highest safety standards for toy products," the company said in a statement.

With the increase Wal-Mart should be testing an addition 200 products each day and this should provide a more concrete evaluation. Wal-Mart is committed to children's toy safety and believe they are taking the right steps to assure consumers of it.
