Over the weekend four people lost their lives when a medical helicopter crashed outside of Huntsville. The chopper took off at 2:45 am Sunday morning and crashed just minutes later. Despite intense search efforts the wreckage was not found until nearly six hours after the crash. The helicopter was on a waiting list to be equipped with night-vision technology that was recommended by National Transportation Safety Board over two years ago, but had not yet been equipped with the potentially life saving gear.

The crash Sunday killed patient David Disman, flight nurse Jana Bishop, pilot Wayne Kirby and flight paramedic Stephanie Waters.

Walker County Chief Deputy Butch Davis said the helicopter crew was taking Disman, 58, from Huntsville Memorial Hospital to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston at the time of the crash for surgery.

Just hours earlier the flight crew helped to save the life of a 2-year-old that had been pulled from a swimming pool. They will be remembered for their courage and professionalism.

The cause of the crash is being investigated.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of the families and the flight crew. My uncle was the nurse on the Med Flight that crashed in Wisconsin just a month ago. Just remember no matter what people may say these men and womens are HEROS.
