Mattel Recalls Toys for a Third Time

Mattel has issued yet another toy recall due to unsafe amounts of lead. This most recent of the three recalls that have been issued over the past five weeks includes about 848,000 toys worldwide. It covers 11 toys in all, eight from the Barbie name and the other three were sold under the Fisher-Price name. The company has now recalled almost 21 million toys since August 1st. Many were recalled excessive amounts of lead paint and millions more for magnets that could cause serious injury if ingested by a child.

"We kept the promises we made last month when these issues surfaced: I said we were going to look hard at all the toys produced by vendors," Mattel Chief Executive Robert Eckert said in an interview. "We said we would promptly notify people if we found something and now, unfortunately, we have."

This recall is part of Mattel's promise to increase its testing and quality control efforts. These toys have very specific piece that contain the unacceptable amounts of lead and it is good to see that Mattel is following through with their promises. This will hopefully reassure some consumers of the safety of Mattel toys during the upcoming holiday season.
