Emilio Upgraded to Fair Condition

Today it was announced that famous Tejano singer, Emilio Navaira, was upgraded to fair condition. The good news comes over three weeks
after he was seriously injured when his tour bus struck a barrier on Interstate
610 after playing a show in Houston.

The news of the accident spread quickly throughout the
Tejano community and has been met with a tremendous out-pouring of support and
concern for the Grammy-winning star.

Officials at Memorial-Hermann-Texas Medical
Center announced Wednesday that his condition had improved from critical to
fair condition. They said more details on his condition would be provided at a
news conference with his Dr. Alex Valadka and the singer's wife Maria Navaira
on Friday

Originally posted at InjuryBoard by Scott Kappes

Wreck on Galveston Causeway Kills Infant

A tragic car accident on the Galveston causeway Sunday
evening took the life of a 16-day-old baby boy. The accident occurred when the
vehicle the child was riding in, his grandmother's car, stalled in the southbound lanes of the causeway. The
vehicle was struck from behind by another vehicle, trapping the newborn in the
back seat. The child was in a car seat and was properly belted in, but the
force of the accident proved to be too much. The newborn was pronounced dead at the scene.

His 57-year-old grandmother and a 4-year-old boy who also
was riding in the car were taken to the University of Texas Medical Branch with
non-life threatening injuries.

The causeway is currently under construction and does not
have shoulder lanes. Authorities do not believe that alcohol was involved in
the accident and no charges are expected to be filed against the other
driver.

Federal Investigation Jeep’s Liberty Upgraded

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)
has upgraded its investigation of a possible defect in 2002 and 2003 Jeep Liberty's. The agency has received 22 complaints of the upper ball joint separating, which can cause the wheel to collapse and the driver to
loose control of the vehicle. Chrysler has also received 74 complaints but none
that have been tied to an accident or injury. Most of the alleged separation
incidents have occurred at speeds below 20mph; however, at least five
complaints claim to have occurred at 40mph and another at 70mph.

Chrysler recalled more than 800,000 Liberty SUVs in August
2006 to fix the front suspension lower ball joint, which could experience excessive
wear and looseness. The recall affected Liberty SUVs from the 2002-2006 model
years.

NHTSA has upgraded the investigation to an engineering
analysis to "assess the scope, frequency and safety consequences of the
alleged defect," the agency said in a report on its Web site.

Chrysler has said publicly that earlier recalls and
confusion of upper and lower ball joints have led to a disproportionate number
of complaints associated with the upper ball joint. The NHTSA has stepped the
investigation to better assess the true dangers that may be associated with the
allegedly defective ball joints.
